See what's happening in the Media Cluster this autumn

Published 06.08.2020
We have some exciting months ahead in the Norwegian Media Cluster - check out the highlights here.

Members in the Norwegian Media Cluster have plenty to look forward to this autumn, as we're going full steam ahead in all our projects and initiatives.

Among the highlights is a ten week online product discovery and management course with the Silicon Valley Product Group, a breakfast seminar on innovation in newsrooms on August 19, an AI for Leaders webinar by the Norwegian Cognitive Center on August 25, and several engaging activities in MCB JoLab.

Workshops in MCB JoLab

We are looking forward to hosting MCB JoLab workshops (both digital and on-site) with a number of high profile experts, including renowned visualization/data journalist Alberto Cairo (Miami School of Communication),international thought leader in social media and online journalism, Henk Von Ess, and James Ball, the global editor of The Bureau of Investigative Journalism. You will also be able to enjoy several webinars and discussions online, and brush up on your digital skills and methods for the future newsroom.

As the Covid19 situation still imposes restrictions for travels and meeting we will make an effort to stream as many as possible of our events, regardless of where they take place. This means that our hubs in Oslo, Bergen or Stavanger or anywhere else in Norway, as well as our international network, partners and members can enjoy the events and take part in the conversations.

10 year anniversary

The cluster is celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2020, and we are looking forward to continue celebrating this feat together with our members. We are working on a special publication to mark the anniversary – and many of our members will be asked to contribute in this project.

Reopening the Media Lab

We are currently planning for a safe and controlled reopening of the Media Lab, with every necessary infection prevention measure taken. More information about this will be announced shortly.

In the meantime, have a look at the month-by-month overview of upcoming events below. Some of the events still have tentative dates – make sure to follow us on Facebook and subscribe to our newsletter to receive updates, as more events will be launched in the weeks and months to come!

Activities with the NCE Media Stavanger Node
The cluster organization NCE Media has expanded to Stavanger by establishing a formal satellite with around 15 media and media tech companies including NRK Rogaland, Stavanger Aftenblad, Mediafarm and the University of Stavanger. The region is also especially rich in media tech startups, and are also working on a project to co-locate several media companies and publishers under the same roof in Stavanger.

– In addition to activities starting up in Stavanger, the main mission is to execute joint projects between the two ecosystems so that we together can create new markets and opportunities. The distance between the two cities is short, and it is easy to generate traffic on the bridge between them. It is also important that value creation is distributed – it shouldn’t only happen in Bergen, but also in Stavanger. By enrolling Stavanger as a collective hub into NCE Media, it is both necessary and desirable to work dedicatedly in the Stavanger region to contribute to growth and value creation there, says Anne Jacobsen, CEO of NCE Media.

A task force is established in Stavanger to coordinate activities and work closely with the administration in Bergen. Furthermore, there is a clear ambition to situate a designated project manager in Stavanger. Read more
